The second quarter figures of 2002 showed an improvement of 280 million Vatu in Vanuatu's trade deficit as compared to the same quarter of 2001. The trade deficit stood at 2,456 million Vatu during the second quarter 2002 compared to 2,736 million Vatu in the same period of 2001.

The Consumer Price Index for June 2002 increased 1.6 percent over the March quarter of 2002 and 2.1 percent over the June quarter of 2001. These increases were due to increases were due to increases in commodity prices in both Port Vila and Luganville.
