International Trade
The third quarter figures showed an increase of 133 million Vatu in Vanuatu's
trade deficit compared to the same quarter 2000. The trade deficit amounted to
2,592 million Vatu during the third quarter 2001 compared to the same period of
2000.
Imports for home consumption decreased from 3,430 million Vatu from the third
quarter of 2000 to 3,085 million Vatu in the same quarter of 2001, showing a
decrease of 10 percent. The domestic exports during the third quarter of 2001
decreased by 47.3 percent compared to the same quarter of 2000.

Tourism and Migration
Visitor arrivals for the third quarter of 2001 were 15,145, an increase of 20
percent compared to the June quarter 2001, but a decrease of 6.4 percent over
the same quarter of the previous year.

Consumer Price Index
The September quarter CPI recorded no change
over the June quarter 2001, however an increase of 2.6 percent was recorded
during the same period in 2000. Port Vila and Luganville recorded and increase
of 2.3 percent and 4.3 percent respectively over the same period in 2000.
