The Vanuatu Statistics Office undertakes special 'ad hoc' surveys and data collections as needs arise, funds permitting. The Census is included in this list as it is considered to be a 'special' project.

Labour Market Survey, 2000

Funded by NZODA to provide employment data by sector of the formal economy. The survey coverage included Port Vila, Luganville and other provinces with businesses registered for Value Added Tax (VAT) as well as Government, educational and financial enterprises outside the coverage of VAT. 

The survey results show that the formal sector has 14,272 employees, of which one third are female. Over 95% of those employed are Ni-Vanuatu ethnic group. The Government employs 31% of those employed in the formal sector.
